Reviewing Peek: the Quick Glance Calendar App

The developers & designers at Square Mountains have a common vision, “to innovate by design,” and this can be clearly seen in their first product, Peek Calendar.

Purpose & Functionality

Peek doesn’t overwhelm you with the details of everything you have scheduled. Instead, it provides an overview of basic information and when needed, a peek at the details.

Rating: simplicity, usefulness, beauty and necessity

  • Simplicity. (7/10) I struggled rating Peek’s simplicity because it has a learning curve. I can’t call it intuitive, but once you learn the gestures, the workflow is quite simple.
  • Usefulness. (9/10) If you rely on your calendar as much as I do, Peek is an incredibly useful tool.
  • Beauty. (10/10) As far as calendar apps go, Peek has one of the most intriguing UI’s in the App Store.
  • Necessity. (9/10) The built-in calendar app on iPhone is a good app, but Peek is much better.
  • Stickiness. (8/10) If you’ve read my previous post, you know that I’m currently trying out Cal. So I can’t give Peek top ratings, but if you must know, I still have Peek installed so I’d say it’s pretty sticky.

Alternatives

Alternative calendar apps are abundant. Many are free, but the best cost a few bucks. If Peek isn’t what you’re looking for, this list is a good place to start.

You can purchase Peek in the Apple App Store for $2.99.
